Audience Targeting?

 Audience Targeting?

Audience targeting is a feature in SharePoint that allows you to show or hide content based on the audience or group of users that it is targeted to. This can be useful for personalizing the content that users see on a SharePoint site, or for restricting access to certain content to only certain users or groups.

To use audience targeting, you must first define one or more audience groups in the SharePoint site. An audience group is a collection of users or other groups that have something in common, such as their department, location, or job role. You can create audience groups manually, or you can use Active Directory or other user profile data to automatically populate the group with users who meet certain criteria.

Once you have defined your audience groups, you can use audience targeting to show or hide content on your SharePoint site. To do this, you can edit the properties of a web part or page and select the audience or audiences that you want to target. When the page is viewed, only users who are members of the targeted audience will see the content.

Audience targeting can be applied to a variety of content types in SharePoint, including web parts, pages, lists, and libraries. It is a useful tool for creating personalized and targeted content for different groups of users on a SharePoint site.

Here is an example of how you can use audience targeting on a SharePoint site:

  • First, create an audience group for your SharePoint site. For example, you might create a group called "Sales Department" that includes all users in the Sales department.

  • Next, create a page on your SharePoint site that contains a web part that you want to target to the Sales Department audience.

  • Edit the properties of the web part and select the "Sales Department" audience in the Audience Targeting section.

  • Save the page and publish it.

  • Now, when users in the Sales department view the page, they will see the web part that is targeted to them. Users who are not members of the Sales Department audience will not see the web part.

  • This is just one example of how you can use audience targeting to show or hide content on a SharePoint site. You can create multiple audience groups and target different content to each group to create personalized and targeted experiences for your users.
